LACOM presents Trailblazer Awards to outstanding members of the Lebanese American Community or Lebanese people that serve to strengthen ties between the Lebanese American Community in Michigan and Lebanon.  Previous Trailblazer Award recipients include:

Mr. Fouad Ashkar - Manager – Economic Development & Ethnic Marketing

In recognition of his leadership in building relationships with community groups and in supporting community projects and events that benefit the Lebanese and other ethnic communities.

Ms. Heidi Ghafari

 In recognition of her success and achievements in business and her continued support of the community.  A true trailblazer, a pioneer that, through innovation, redefined her industry. 

Mr. Ted Wahby - Treasurer – Macomb County

 In recognition of his dedication and many contributions to public service as the Mayor of St. Clair Shores, Treasurer of Macomb County and Chairman of Michigan’s Transportation Commission.

2006

Mr. Leonard Thomas

In recognition of his leadership in the development and growth of St. Sharbel Parish since its inception in 1987.

Mr. Raymond Mabarak

In recognition of his dedication to the Lebanese Community, his devotion to the Maronite Church and his service in the Armed Forces.

2005

Dr. Elie Chouaifaty - Auxilia Foundation

In recognition of his leadership in founding and managing Auxilia, a non-profit charitable organization that provides food, shelter, medical care, education, and employment needs of underprivileged families.

Mr. Hassan Jaber - Associate Executive Director - ACCESS

In recognition of his leadership in developing and administering social, legal, immigration, community health, job training, and educational programs.

Edmund T. Ahee Family

In recognition of their compassion and their generosity in conducting charitable activities to benefit the entire community.

2004

Mr. Marcel Ghanem - LBCI (Lebanese Broadcasting Company International)

In recognition of his professional achievements at LBC International especially as the host and moderator of Kalam el-Nass, a popular program that has raised awareness of important issues facing our people in Lebanon and abroad.

Mr. Walid Maalouf - Director of Public Diplomacy for Middle Eastern & MEPI

                                    Development

In recognition of his achievements in the public service arena including his position as the Director of Public Diplomacy for Middle Eastern & MEPI Affairs at USAID as well as your previous position as the Alternate Representative of the United States of America to the general assembly of the United Nations in 2003.
